Lady Aurora's Encore Performance Pt 3

            We turn back the clock to exactly 1 year ago today as of this posting, to Saturday, May 11, 2024.  On that night, the Northern Lights made an appearance for the second night in a row.  While not nearly as powerful as the epic G5 geomagnetic storm that hit Earth dead on the night before and produced fantastic auroras in both hemispheres that lasted worldwide for more than 24 hours, this second solar storm did produce quite the light show for about 10-15 minutes.  This second storm was the more anticipated of the two, having originated from a more powerful coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, but it did not hit as directly as the one from before.

Here we have 3 shots taken taken in near-succession showing how fast the northern lights built as the CME hit. While not as bright or as big as the night before, light pillars did become visible to the naked eye during the event. These were all taken on private property just west of Somonauk, IL, which is roughly 65 miles due west of Chicago.
