1952 TDF The Most Beautiful Defeat...

            July 17, stage 21: Limoges - Puy de Dôme, 245 km.
The Tour de France is racing through France in its last days. In 1952 he suddenly arrived, JAN NOLTEN. The tall Limburg cyclist with blond hair combed back became an absolute revelation of the Tour de France in that year. Just a professional and debuting on the highest podium, he wins the stage to Monaco and on the flanks of the Puy de Dôme he rides everyone off his wheel. The finish is already in sight when the phenomenon FAUSTO COPPI passes him in the last hundred meters. It will be 'the most beautiful defeat' of Jan Nolten, one of the best Dutch climbers ever. He was even the only one in that Tour who the great Fausto Coppi had feared. Nevertheless, Nolten was never able to fully meet the sky-high expectations, partly due to a car accident.
Nolten rode five Tours from 1952 to 1956.
