            Initially hampered by a troubled engine the SE5a went on to become perhaps the greatest Allied fighter of WWI. This is an original aircraft that saw service briefly before becoming a smoke-trailing sky-writer in the advertising business and eventually being acquired by the Shuttleworth Trust. Seen here taking off from Old Warden airfield for its part in the evening display of the 2025 Shuttleworth Trust Festival of Flight.
