IHB CAE crossing Bellwood 1986

A little Chicagoland traction obscurity in Bellwood. This view looks east, standing on the old CA&E right of way. This former CGW / IHB spur serviced a nearby quarry, and at one time crossed over the CA&E interuban mainline here before swinging across Mannheim Rd. and running alongside it.

For whatever reason when the CA&E trackage was removed the crossing diamonds were simply left in place. By this time there was only one left, and just around the corner out of sight crews had begun removing the crossing over Mannheim Rd.

The CA&E also had a parallel spur that branched off here, serving the Mt. Carmel cemetery. Various publications have pictures of fantrips with CRT equipment along Manheim Rd.
