Haze obscures Mount Lemmon's towers - a photo on Flickriver

            The camera focuses on the wires. Everything beyond seems to still be in focus... Reasonably in focus, I should say. Atmospheric haze and turbulence along the path of a light ray going from the cooler mountain peaks to the lens aperture in the hot valley will definitely degrade the images. It's a well known phenomenon known as "atmospheric seeing" The magnitude of the point spread function degradation can be measured separately. That has nothing to do with the lens quality. This is not a lens testbed.
