Green Zebra Tomatoes Ripening On The Vine

They ripened further and were sweet and delicious!

Sorry for the poor focus. I took this in the midst of the intense downpour on the Fourth. It was quite dark, and I didn't set the ISO high enough.

I can't remember what variety I bought before my surgery, and the plant ID tag is gone. This is the first day where any reddish color has appeared. Before, they were only green and white.

As the article points out, Green Zebra – Often called an heirloom, it is not. It is an open-pollinated cultivar bred from four heirloom varieties and released by Tom Wagner of Lancaster, Kansas in 1983.

I haven't pruned this indeterminate tomato plant, so it has created a lush jungle of growth. There are many tomatoes growing as I have hand pollinated the flowers. These tomatoes will remain rather small, about 2 inches or 5 centimeters in diameter, because too much energy is going into the excess branches. The plant is beautiful and shades other plants from the fierce Sonoran Desert sun.
