Today I learned that county roads in Alabama have a maximum speed limit of 45 MPH unless otherwise marked.  I've driven this road a gazillion times, usually at 70+ MPH.  As we were heading back to Troy to pick up the remaining scraps and clean up the old house, a very helpful state trooper schooled me on the law.  He did say that it's part of the Alabama driving test (which I've never been invited to take) as he wrote me a ticket for 66 MPH in a 45 zone.
The one question I had for him, which I dared not ask, is where the hell was he last Sunday when we were stranded on I-65 for two and a half hours in the pouring rain when Siouxsie Subaru broke down on the way south.
