Jackass penguins. Boulders Bay. SA. - a photo on Flickriver

            When I photographed these jackass penguins in 1995 the only security offered them was a single ranger, seated at a table at the top of the beach and members of the public were given free access to roam. The penguins were truly wild and came and went between the sand and the water , totally unafraid of any human presence. Unfortunately their numbers later went into steep decline and they are still listed as a threatened species so, I believe that access is now severely restricted and they can only be viewed from the other side of a fence.
