Mercedes Benz 300 S cabriolet - a photo on Flickriver

La Mercedes Benz 300 S fu presentata al Salone dell’automobile di Parigi nel 1951, suscitando immediatamente l’entusiasmo della critica che definì la Typ 300 un punto di apoteosi nella storia dell’automobile; definita “the car of the world’s elite” la Mercedes Benz 300 S, con la sua forma armoniosa , le sue nobili linee che non facevano particolare ricorso all’aerodinamica, fu subito considerata come l’esempio del massimo livello costruttivo dell’automobile.
Destinata al successo nel mondo del bello e del lusso, la vettura era disponibile nelle versioni berlina, cabriolet e coupé: in particolare la Typ 300 sarà ricordata nella storia dell’automobile come la Mercedes del cancelliere tedesco Adenauer e per il successo della 300 SL con le portiere ad apertura ad “ali di gabbiano”.

Le Typ 300 furono le ultime Mercedes con telaio separato, a crociera per aumentarne la rigidità.
Al recente Salone delle auto d’epoca, Automotoretrò, era esposta una Mercedes Benz 300 cabriolet, carrozzata da Pininfarina.
Immatricolata in Firenze nel 1955, rappresenta l’unica vettura aperta costruita per la Casa tedesca da Pininfarina che lavorò su altri 4 modelli Mercedes Benz.
