Trslides544 Cabs D1562 Crewe Works - a photo on Flickriver

            Following on from the last image of D1562 on test at Preston we have an image, taken on the 12th of December 1971 of the cabs which were saved for re-use at Crewe Works after the loco was cut up in June 1971.
Having been experimentally uprated D1562 was working the 19.30 Liverpool St to Norwich on the 13th of March 1971,  an explosion followed by a fire took place in the engine room near Haughley Junction. Quoting from a photo on the loco on the Stream of 'Andy F 1965', the force of the explosion blew the engine room door off its hinges striking the driver Harry Hendry and breaking his arm.
