Forest Kingfisher on watch - a photo on Flickriver

            The Forest Kingfisher (Todiramphus macleayii) is found in Indonesia, New Guinea and coastal eastern and northern Australia. Like many other kingfishers, it hunts invertebrates such as small frogs, beetles,bugs, grasshoppers, worms, spiders and lizards, and often kills prey by hitting it against a branch after seizing it.  It typically hunts from low bare branches or telegraph wires.

This one was regularly hunting above a backyard pond, pouncing on prey in the water as well among the lawn near the pond.
