I didn't really know what to expect "photographically" when visiting Yellowstone. You can't get up close and personal with a geothermal pond, which might burn the soles right off your shoes. All the pathways through the thermal and geyser fields and basins are raised wooden boardwalks. This means one has to get creative if one wants to capture something compositionally interesting, with a bit of a "wow" factor.

Thanks to what I understand was one of the most intense thunderstorms in a long time, it left some beautiful skies in it's wake. Add the rising steam to the clouds (not all that evident in this particular shot, where I want to show the deep blue of the thermal pond contrasted with the browns and yellows of the surrounding ground) and the views were quite mesmerizing. No problem getting hundreds of great images.

I have to impress upon anyone who hasn't visited America's very first National Park. Photographs don't do the "real thing" justice at all. You really get a feel of the "living earth" when in Yellowstone.
