Afternoon At Sunset - a photo on Flickriver

This photo, taken on the North Shore at Sunset Beach Park, is an image where I "drew" in the foreground to give more "composition" to the original shot. It's almost like the old art of "decoupage" where different layers were glued onto an image to make it appear three dimensional. In this image, the background up to the splash of the waves on the rocks is one image. The tree, branches and some of the rocks are from another photo taken in the same spot and overlaid on top of the first. Then there is a black vignette overlaid as the third element.

I could, of course, have just presented either image in it's original form. The one with the waves didn't include the tree, and the one with the tree shows the coastline in the distance further back. So the whole picture is "faked" but it contains elements which are there in nature, just resized or moved in order to make what I believe is a more pleasing composition.

I choose not to call this "art photography" even with all the tweaks. And I don't have to upend the experience of looking at the photo by describing my process. But I usually describe my process, and I'm happy with the images I create, whether or not they are completely presented "in the camera" or added to or subtracted from. All images used in any composite are always my own.
