Construction of the 5 storey Many Glacier Hotel on the tranquil shores of Swift Current Lake and at the base of Mt Grinnell, not far from Babb, Montana, commenced in 1914 and the building, a Swiss Style Chateau, was completed in 1915.
The hotel's builders were the Great Northern Railway who had been establishing a series of luxury hotels and backcountry chalets in Glacier National Park at that time with the Many Glacier Hotel being known as the "Gem of the West".
This was part of an effort by Louis W. Hill, president of the Great Northern Railway, and son of James J. Hill, to open up Glacier National Park to wealthy tourists, establish destination resorts and to promote the area as the "American Alps".
The old world Swiss style hotel has 114 rooms, having undergone part renovation in 2016. Many Glacier Hotel offers a restaurant, lounge, gift shop, and snack shop. Red Bus tours, boat cruises, and other activities are also available.
This hotel, and most other accommodation in Glacier National Park, is usually fully booked. If planning on a stay here its necessary to book 6-12 months ahead of your stay.
