Girl tries to open door on moving tram

            Foot amputation hazard warning! 

I wonder if this kind of hazard featured in the tram system planning? There are guards at the front of the trams to try to sweep things off the rails before the front wheels get them. But there are no guards on the sides.

Of course the door wouldn't have opened even if she'd managed to hit the button. And even if it had the tram on this first day of passenger operation was so full she would have had difficulty getting in. People would probably have fallen out!

The driver is anxiously watching her in his rear view screen. I'm happy to be able to say that she quickly gave up. From her gait it looks as though she hadn't realised until the last second that she needed to match speed with the moving tram. Luckily she didn't even fall over, just stumbled. It all happened so fast I didn't even see this happening while I was taking the photographs. Inattentional blindness strikes again.

Drunk teenage girls is a new hazard in public spaces on sunny days. There were a lot more of them reeling about and shrieking in Princes Street on this unusually hot sunny than drunk boys. Or maybe they were just a lot noisier :-)

Maybe she wasn't drunk, just silly. Very tricky business, foolproof design and planning.
