UP 1445 and Caboose Colorado Springs 27 May 09

            UP 1445 and it's appropriately-adorned shoving platform rest near the old DRGW Depot in downtown Colorado Springs, CO.

UP 1445 was, at the time, unquestionably the best-looking former Rio Grande unit that hadn't been repainted.  A local railfan had made it even better by removing the UP shield on the nose and someone had repainted the black circles to include orange where the ditch lights used to be.  The unit was a real looker and hung around as power for the UP Colorado Springs Local right up until a little after this photo was taken.  Then it was off to the Pacific Northwest and, sadly, eventually got repainted into Armour Yellow.

Interestingly, the orange caboose is still there and in operation on the Local, albeit in a much more faded condition....
