Rare Garden Visitor - a photo on Flickriver

            I had just come down to put the kettle on this morning - and bleary eyed saw something a bit different hopping around at the far side of the back garden. 

Rubbing my eyes I couldn't believe it was a juvenile (female) Green Woodpecker - and thought it would be best just to enjoy watching it, knowing of course that bird photography rule - if you go to get your camera it will be gone when you get back. However I couldn't resist and luckily it was still there. 

She was actually working her way towards me when a squirrel came out of nowhere and chased her away. The only time I have ever seen a squirrel chase any bird in the garden, they must not like Green Woodpeckers!

I didn't have time to check any settings and shot through the window pane (and in the shade). Think that is the full list of excuses :-).

Have never seen a juvenile before.
