LA TRESSE

Following their meeting in Tel Aviv in 2012, dancers Geneviève Boulet, Erin O’Loughlin and Laura Toma reconnected in Montréal to form LA TRESSE. They united around a common interest to place physicality at the centre of a research of unconventional femininity. Aesthetically, they are attracted to dichotomies whereby chaos coexists with control and cultural histories collide. At once a laboratory where they conduct their own choreographic research, LA TRESSE also commissions and collaborates with choreographers and other artists who share in their aesthetic approach and artistic vision.

BEAUTÉ BRUTE is a dance work supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts wherein three female creatures meet. The audience is invited into a dreamlike world where there exists a strong connection to desire, mysticism, and variations of self portrayal. The piece examines a common pulse between the dancers through the lens of femininity and sisterhood. While connecting to a deep sense of fantasy, each character embarks on a path towards feminine expression through a shared experience in ritual.
