Norway Maple #NorwayMaple Acer platanoides #uomtrees 🇳🇴

This mature Norway maple is clearly happy here sitting proudly beside the ivy-clad Beyer Building in the Old Quad. It’s fast growing and popular as an urban tree for its toughness and ability to cope with shade, compacted soil and pollution, although here it enjoys a more pleasant environment.

There is lots to notice throughout the seasons. In spring, the acid-green flowers open in large clusters before the leaves appear in April and May. These are typically ‘maple’ shaped and form a dense dark green canopy before turning deep golden yellow later in the autumn.
