The Avro Lancaster, commonly known as the Lancaster Bomber, is a British Second World War heavy bomber. They did this in the service of King and Country while flying on Royal Air Force Bomber Command.

Their average age was 22, some were as young as 18.

8,403 airmen were wounded in action and 9,838 were captured and held as prisoners of war.

Since World War 2 it has become statistical fact that those was joined RAF Bomber Command to fly as aircrew stood more chance of losing their young lives the serving in any ally of the armed Forces.

For a long time the young men provided the only means of striking back at the enemy
