Nature alone could not have formed these polygonal columns, especially their flat bottoms and flat sides. If the "basalt columns" had been formed by cracks in cooling lava, the columns should have fallen/broken during earthquakes in prehistoric times. These are prehistoric man-made columns found in Svartifoss in Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. Laboratory experiments did not reproduce similar columns. These columns show high technology in little space between the columns.

Added on June 29, 2015: The columns may have been held together by artificial cement.
