Paine Grande - a photo on Flickriver

Raiatea and I stayed at Paine Grande for the last two nights of our Patagonia trip. We had carried a Black Diamond mountaineering tent for the last two weeks, and we hadn't really needed its increased robustness over a normal tent. We'd had a good amount of rain, but no horrible winds, and a normal tent would have been lighter. But during our first night at Paine Grande, I woke up partway through the night to the sound of howling winds. I put in my ear plugs, smiled, and went back to sleep. In the morning, the 50+ mph winds had shredded some of the other tents, including the for-rental ones that should last the whole season. Our tent didn't even flap. It finally justified itself.

This is a stack of 30 images collected at 2-second intervals, producing the equivalent of a 60-second exposure.
