I know this is well after the announcement, but I never really got around to posting my thoughts at the time.

Kodachrome is the film I grew up with. There are several photographers in my family, and Kodachrome was just what one shot. Add in the fact that I grew up taking railroad photographs -- rail photographers were (and to the extent that they still can be, some still are) Kodachrome Kultists -- and it was sealed that Kodachrome was my film.

Was it perfect? No. Dear heavens, I still fear the mud that overcast skies turn into with Kodachrome. You didn't shoot trains on cloudy days with Kodachrome, that's for sure! Still, when the conditions were right, oh man, was it nice. Santa Fe Super Fleet locos? They were MADE for Kodachrome (alas! I never got to shoot the "Kodachrome" paint scheme of the failed Southern Pacific Santa Fe merger).

I have 5 rolls left in my possession. Since Dwayne's is supposed to be processing until December of this year, that gives me one more summer and fall to shoot this glorious film.

For one of those rolls, I'm thinking about a special trip. I've been wanting to shoot the Arkansas and Missouri railroad. How appropriate would it be to load up a roll of Kodachrome in something vintage (I'm leaning towards an Argus C3 or a Kodak Retina at the moment) to shoot those gorgeously painted ALCos? It'd be like taking a trip back in time 40 or 50 years I tell you!
