Desert Gold - a photo on Flickriver

            So, what does the Joshua Tree look like? 

I hadn't seen one (in real life) before. And, this tree in person, looks a whole lot more impressive than what it does in pictures. I am not the first one to imagine that these might have been a source of inspiration for Dr. Suess' Truffula trees (immortalized in that classic work of literature -- The Lorax). What is amazing is how they are spread around in the landscape, embedded within the stark beauty of the desert.

And, yes, in another allusion from the days of yore, the sun reflecting off the huge boulders in the desert was very reminiscent of some iconic vistas from "Mackenna's Gold."
