Planckendael is a zoo, located on the grounds of Planckendael castle in the village district of Muizen, in Mechelen, Belgium. In 1956 the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp (KMDA) bought the Planckendael estate in order to acquire a larger space for animals than what they owned: the city zoo in Antwerp.

ZOO Planckendael takes you on a Brick Safari, an extraordinary exhibition of LEGO® animals.

Meet several compositions of animals created entirely from LEGO® bricks. The temporary exhibition mainly features big cats (9 species!) and safari animals. Nearly 1 million LEGO® bricks were used to create the exhibition. Find yourself face to face with LEGO® animals such as tigers, lion cubs, a lynx, a panther, a condor, hyenas, penguins... as well as an imposing 1,088 kg elephant. The work of the pachyderm required 149,071 bricks, 5 artists and 1,600 hours of work.
