Cham dance Dramitse Ngacham - a photo on Flickriver

            Bhutan. Black mountain region. Gangtey tsechu.
Dance of the 16 Drum Beaters from Dramitse.
Costume: knee-length yellow skirts, animal masks, drums, bare feet.

The Tang Du is the traditional Buddhist shaman's drum used in Nepali & Tibetan cultural ceremonies. Carved handle, skin heads with rawhide lacing. Comes with playing stick.

Drums of this kind are also used to invoke deities or to provide a gentle musical background for the singing of the orchestra of monks. The monotonous, even beat is ideally suited to accompanying meditation because it provides extremely suggestive and evocative vibrations. 

The music of this video is not part of the original file. It was the first time I shot video with my camera,  so I did not get the settings right, and when getting home I realized there was no sound :( Bummer, had to find the corresponding sound files on the internet.
The video quality is not great either, as this was filmed with my old Olympus. I used that old camera to shoot movie while taking pictures with the new one.
