A very special and quiet pilgrimage site

When I visited the tomb-shrine of St. Nektarios I was pleased to be able to enjoy a very calm place. In fact I soon learned that there were no hotels on the tiny island so people usually go there for a very short stay only.

The funeral of St. Nektarios was attended by multitudes of people from all parts of Greece and Egypt in 1920.

Saint Nektarios of Aegina (1846–1920), Metropolitan of Pentapolis and Wonderworker of Aegina, was officially recognized as a Saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on 20 April 1961.

The relics of St. Nektarios were removed from the grave at the Holy Trinity Convent of Aegina on 2 September 1953 and transferred to the Monastery of Agios Nektarios.

His Feast Day is celebrated every year on 9 November and even today you can read some testimonies of pilgrims on the net.
