            Tombs in the Kerameikos
These tombs belonging to the ancient cemetery to the north east of the Kerameikos were excavated in 1891. Two skeletons were found in a remarkably fine state. They were accompanied by numerous grave offerings, mainly lekythoi (vases intended for funerary use), in accordance with the burial practice in Classical Athens. One sarcophagus dates from about 460-450 BC and the other from about 440-430 BC.
