And this wasn't all of them; there were at least two others that I didn't see on this visit to Canterbury.

Some people believe there was, or still is, a music scene that originated in Canterbury during the 'sixties and 'seventies and was named after it, while an alternative view is that no such scene ever existed in the city and its environs. What is true, though, is that founding members of bands such as Caravan, Soft Machine and Gong had strong connections with this part of the world. Whether an identifiable "Canterbury" genre exists or not, I love the music of these and associated bands, a list that I can extend to include Hatfield & The North, National Health, Egg, and others.

One of the reasons for this trip was so that I could pay homage to the idea of the Canterbury Scene, even if it does have more of a spiritual presence than a tangible one.
