Herrenhaus am Unterhammer - a photo on Flickriver

Ein zweistöckiges Herrenhaus aus Sandstein als Teil des ehemaligen Eisenhammerwerkes im Karlstal bei Trippstadt, das aus 5 Gebäuden besteht und 1724 gegründet wurde. Es diente von ca. 1820 bis 1865 als Verwaltungssitz und zeitweise als Wohnhaus des jeweiligen Besitzers. Nach der Aufgabe der Eisenproduktionsstätte befand sich dort ein Beamtenerholungsheim (ab 1870). Noch während des Zweiten Weltkrieges etablierte 1944 das Städtische Krankenhaus Kaiserslautern ein Entbindungsheim. Anschließend nutzte die Arbeiterwohlfahrt bis etwa 1960 den „Unterhammer“ als Sanatorium. Das gesamte Ensemble wird heute als Café, Brauerei, Ferienwohnheim und Gesundheitszentrum betrieben (www.unterhammer.com).

A two-story sandstone manor house, part of the former ironworks in the Karlstal valley near Trippstadt, which consists of five buildings and was founded in 1724. From around 1820 to 1865, it served as the administrative headquarters and at times as the residence of the respective owner. After iron production ceased, the buildings were converted and used as a retreat for civil servants starting in 1870. During World War II, in 1944, the Municipal Hospital of Kaiserslautern established a maternity ward there. Afterwards, the Workers' Welfare Association used the “Unterhammer” as a sanatorium until around 1960. Today, the entire complex operates as a café, brewery, holiday home, and health center (www.unterhammer.com).
