Mad Max is visiting the rocket camp in the desert

We spent the last September weekend at Balls 29, a big experimental rocket launch event in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada - the same place where Burning Man takes place. A group came to visit our camp in the middle of the playa (dry lakebed) to see rocket launches. A man in the group without shirt and brown skin from the sun built this car 30 years ago in the Mad Max style. Well, likely the other way around, the Mad Max movies were inspired by this car. The group camped at the edge of the playa.

I asked him if we could visit his camp to take photos of his Mad Max car in the evening. Mad Max, that is his playa name, happily agreed. So my photographer friend John and I drove to his camp at sunset using GPS for navigation. We set up our gear and took many photos. John introduced me to light painting, where you use an LED floodlight to illuminate one part of the vehicle, take a shot, then illuminate the next part, and so on. Later you blend all the shots into a single image. The result is this very vivid image of the Mad Max car.

Mad Max gave both of us a keychain with the Burning Man symbol stamped out, and letters spelling Mad Max. The next day I put the keychain into a rocket as a payload. After recovery of the rocket I sent a text to Mad Max that Mad Max, the keychain flew up to 11,000 feet in a rocket. :-)

I processed a balanced, a soft, and a smooth HDR photo from four RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
