Hector's dolphin (Cephalorhynchus hectori)

            We were hoping to see Hector's dolphin as we sailed into Akaroa and we were not disappointed. It was a flat calm day and the sea was very clear, affording us excellent views from the cruise ship and the smaller nature tour vessel.
Best-known of the four dolphins in the genus Cephalorhynchus and is found only in New Zealand. At about 1.4 m in length, it is one of the smallest cetaceans and the smallest and rarest marine dolphin (along with the sub species Maui’s dolphin)
