GM&O PA right - a photo on Flickriver

GM&O PA right

#292 was GM&O's last of only 3 PA units on their roster, but it started life as Alco/GE #1776. As #1776, it pulled the American Freedom Train from 1947-49 when it was purchased by GM&O. Because of it's special service, it wore a bronze plate on the fireman's side proclaiming its heritage. All this was not enough to spare it from the scrapper in the 1960s when it was traded in. The plate now lives at a museum in Jackson, Tennessee.

This PA is startlingly similar to my SP PA2, except for my attempt at the 'eyebrow' trim strip behind the cab window. I didn't really need more options for my Gulf Coast Rebel, but PAs did show up on the Rebel sometimes in addition to the DL 109s. On Dec. 22 it will join its Alco brother in San Diego for it's maiden run. If all goes well, it'll keep rolling until the winter show ends Jan. 19. More action photos to come.

Sadly, I was unable to find any pictures online of the real #292. It appears in numerous GM&O books so I'll try and get permission to post one of those.
