Bumble Bee on Bird's Beak (Cordylanthus rigidus)

            This large black Bumble Bee (Bombus) has managed to find a real flower of native Bird's Beak (Cordylanthus rigidus, Orobanchaceae) in the woods today.  The plant's flowers are normally hidden between green bracts, but somehow the insects find them.  This bee does have a yellow face, so maybe it's the Yellow-faced Bumble Bee (Bombus vosnesenskii) - but maybe not, there are other similar bees.  I have to admit that bumble bees are not my favorite to photograph - most are so dark and hairy that it's hard to show details.  (San Marcos Pass, 8 August 2020)
