Sheetweb Spiders caught in the act of love

These are Sheetweb Spiders (Pityohyphantes, Linyphiidae) caught in the act of love, about to transfer genetic material from the male's large palps (on the left) to the female's epigyne (on the right) in the woods a couple of days ago. It's a tender moment . . . and complicated! Mating is difficult for these predators who are ready to attack anything that moves. I guess it's always difficult.
