Deformation of strata - a photo on Flickriver

            Deformation of stratified deposits due to slumping of material while the deposit was unsolidified. 
In this example, the surrounding material is still pliable and liable to further movement, and distortion of the deposit.
Once the deposit is solidified into hard rock, it would appear that solid rock and strata had been distorted, folded etc. over millions of years of slow processes, which is evidently not the case.
