Eerst en vooral mijn beste wensen voor het nieuwe jaar 🎉

Het spotjaar werd in 2025 uitzonderlijk vroeg geopend, al blijven we wel nog even bij de nachtfotografie. Op nieuwjaarsdag vertelde mijn broer Steven me namelijk dat hij de volgende dag in Mons de OUIGO op foto ging zetten.
Ik had wel zin om dit vernieuwde station met zijn bijzondere architectuur van de hand van de Spaanse architect Calatrava ook eens van dichterbij te bekijken en dus ontstond bij mij het plan om hem te vergezellen. Mijn wederhelft vond het geen probleem en dus pikte Steven mij na zijn werkdag op en reden we samen richting Mons.

Nadat we eerst nog even de innerlijke mens versterkten, werden de apps nog eens gecontroleerd om te zien of de OUIGO een beetje op tijd reed. Dat was het geval (oké, +3 om precies te zijn) al was er in Mons wel een spoorwijziging aangekondigd. De trein zou niet op spoor 4 vertrekken (normaal voorzien in de dienstregeling) maar wel op spoor 3. Bij Steven ontstond wat lichte paniek want zouden we dan wel een van de karakteristieke bogen boven de perronoverkapping mee op foto kunnen zetten? Ik daarentegen was er vrij gerust in want ik ging ervan uit dat het station (het station van Liège-Guillemins in gedachten) gewoon symmetrisch opgebouwd was. En dat bleek ook zo...

De statieven werden dus op spoor 4 geplaatst en om 19u22 reed de trein binnen. Een aantal fracties van een seconde later, zat de foto in het digitale kastje. Jammer genoeg waren de eerste twee rijtuigen wel zonder de kenmerkende OUIGO-bestickering maar dat het wel degelijk om de OUIGO ging, kunnen jullie controleren in dit filmpje bij vertrek van de trein naar Paris Nord 😉

Here you can see OUIGO 56 Brussels South - Paris Nord in the renovated Mons station. Unfortunately, the first two carriages were without the characteristic OUIGO stickers, but you can check that this was indeed the OUIGO in this video of the departure of the train to Paris Nord 😉

The new station was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, who also designed the Liège-Guillemins station. The renovated station was inaugurated on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 and was therefore open to the public for about two weeks at the time of taking this picture.

[Edit] Graffiti was removed on the locomotive.
