DBAG 146 234-0 @ Gengenbach 🇩🇪

Na het kletsnatte einde van de stop in Graben-Neudorf konden we onze rit naar het Zwarte Woud al bij al droog verderzetten. Ik maakte dan ook nog een korte stop in Gengenbach maar de voorspelde opklaring bleef hier jammer genoeg uit en dus reden we snel door naar ons vakantieadres in Fischerbach im Kinzigtal.

Een dagje later, op maandag 28 juli, moesten we dan een eerste regenzone verwerken. Maar goed, de boodschappen stonden ook op de planning dus die regen kon ons niet zo heel veel deren. Tegen de late namiddag klaarde het dan uit en was het tijd om een bezoekje te brengen aan Gengenbach im Kinzigtal. Het stadje is een echte aanrader met tal van oude straatjes met statige gebouwen, heel veel vakwerkhuisjes en een paar mooie stadstorens.

Een goede nachtrust later maakte ik dan ook met de gunstige weersvoorspellingen op dinsdagmorgen 29 juli even tijd om opnieuw naar Gengenbach te rijden, deze keer met een foto van een RE2 tussen Karlsruhe en (initieel) Konstanz voor de stadscoulisse als doel. De zon moest die ochtend wel nog even door de bewolking heen, maar dat gebeurde net op tijd en zo zien jullie hier vanop het wandelpad langsheen de Kinzig een RE2 tussen de Kinzigtor (links) en de kerktoren van de 'Stadtkirche St. Marien'.

Oh ja, door een rotsverschuiving in het station van Triberg op maandagavond 28 juli, reden de RE2 vanuit Karlsruhe niet verder dan Hausach! Vanuit Konstanz hielden de treinen halt in St. Georgen im Schwarzwald en tussen beide stations was het dan ook een hele week pendelen in 'Schienenersatzverkehr'! Jammer wel want hierdoor werden ook een paar geplande cargo's onherroepelijk geschrapt! Niets aan te doen... ik zou mijn plannen dus wat moeten aanpassen maar gelukkig vond ik nog voldoende alternatieven ;-)

After the soaking wet end of the stop in Graben-Neudorf, we were finally able to continue our journey to the Black Forest dry. I also made a short stop in Gengenbach, but unfortunately, the predicted clearing didn't materialize, so we quickly drove on to our holiday destination in Fischerbach am Kinzigtal.

After a rainy Monday, the sun finally emerged at the end of the day, so we visited the beautiful town of Gengenbach im Kinzigtal. The town is highly recommended with numerous old streets with stately buildings, many half-timbered houses and some beautiful city towers.

A good night's sleep later, and with the favorable weather forecast, I took the time to drive to Gengenbach again on Tuesday morning, July 29th, this time aiming for a photo of an RE2 between Karlsruhe and (initially) Konstanz for the city scenery. The sun had to break through the clouds that morning, but it did just in time, and so you see an RE2 here from the footpath along the Kinzig River between the Kinzigtor (left) and the church tower of the 'Stadtkirche St. Marien'.

About the RE2: due to a rockslide at Triberg station on Monday evening, July 28th, the RE2 trains from Karlsruhe only ran as far as Hausach! Trains from Konstanz stopped at St. Georgen im Schwarzwald, and it meant a whole week of commuting between the two stations in "Schienenersatzverkehr" (Shift Transfer Service)! It was a shame, though, because this also meant a few scheduled freight trains were irrevocably cancelled! Nothing could be done about it... I had to adjust my plans a bit, but luckily I found plenty of alternatives ;-)
