Adé, EC 6 / 7 / 8 / 9. Adieu, goodbey, auf Wiedersehen...

We blijven nog even in Duitsland want over tien dagen nemen we definitief afscheid van de getrokken EC van Duitsland naar Zwitserland en vice versa. Erg jammer want deze treinen waren samen met de gesleepte IC 118/119 altijd graag geziene gasten op fototrips langs de Rijn - en ook verder in Duitsland natuurlijk ;-)

De laatste jaren ondergingen deze treinen wel al wat veranderingen. Door de niet zo positieve 'Pünktlichkeit' van de Deutsche Bahn reden de treinen in de richting van Zwitserland namelijk niet meer verder dan Basel. Voor de verdere rit op Zwitserse bodem moesten de reizigers dus overstappen op binnenlandse Zwitserse treinen. Dit was wel niet zo voor de EC's vanuit Zwitserland. Die reden wel nog de origineel voorziene route.

Van die problemen was in augustus 2020 wel nog geen sprake toen deze EC 6 vanuit Interlaken Ost 'pünktich' mijn fototoestel in het subtropische (+ 37°C) Bonn-Limperich voorbijsnelde. De trein reed die dag dus 'rechtsrheinisch' door spoorwerken op de linkeroever.

Oh ja, deze loc reed sinds 2016 (na het verwijderen van de totaalreclame voor Eintracht Frankfurt) rond zonder DB-logo op de flanken! Een klein jaar na deze foto kreeg de loc dan nog een keer een speciale livrei en rijdt tot op de dag van vandaag nog rond als reclameloc voor '50 Jahre Intercity'

Adieu, goodbey, auf Wiedersehen EC 6 / 7 / 8 / 9.

We're staying in Germany a little longer, because in ten days we'll finally say goodbye to the hauled EC trains from Germany to Switzerland and back. It's a real shame, because these trains, along with the hauled IC 118/119, were always welcome guests on photo trips along the Rhine - and elsewhere in Germany, of course ;-)

These trains have undergone some changes in recent years. Due to Deutsche Bahn's less-than-stellar punctuality, trains bound for Switzerland no longer traveled beyond Basel. For the onward journey on Swiss soil, passengers had to transfer to domestic Swiss trains. This was not the case for the EC trains from Switzerland, which continued to operate on their original scheduled route.

These problems weren't yet present in August 2020, when this EC 6 from Interlaken Ost sped past my camera in the subtropical (+37°C) Bonn-Limperich region. The train was traveling on the right-hand Rhine that day due to trackwork on the left bank.

About the locomotive: this 101 110 has been running since 2016 (after the removal of the complete advertising for Eintracht Frankfurt) without the DB logo on the sides! Just under a year after this photo, the locomotive was given a special livery and is still running today as an advertising locomotive for the '50 Years of Intercity'
