Tortue radiée Radiated tortoise Astrochelys radiata 1106_DxO

Ces tortues ont été photographiées au Village des tortues de Mangily Ifaty (15 kms au nord de Tuléar), elles ont toutes été récupérées suite à des trafics de toute sorte, entassées dans des sacs sur la plage où des contrebandiers viennent les chercher en bateau destination l’Asie, prises à l’aéroport d’Antananarivo ou à Roissy CDG pour servir d’animal de compagnie !

Les gardes de ce village ont environ 10 000 tortues rescapées (y compris celles qui naissent au village) dont ils prennent soin avec une abnégation admirable, elles sont destinées à être relâchées … en espérant qu’elles ne soient pas capturées à nouveau pour alimenter les trafics ou tout simplement être mangées, source de protéines dans le 5ème pays le plus pauvre du monde 😥.

These turtles have been photographed in Holiday home « Village des tortues » at Mangily Ifaty (15 kms north of Tulear), they all have been reserved following different traffics, packed in bags on beaches where poachers come to take them by boats, direction Asia, taken at Antananarivo airport or at Roissy CDG to become a pet !

The village guards have roughly 10 000 rescued turtles (including those born in the village) of which they take care with a remarkable abnegation, they must be released in the wild … expecting they will not be captured again to supply new traffics or more simply to be used as food, protein source in the 5th poorest country of the world 😢.
