Der Benz-Patent-Motorwagen entstand 1886 in der mechanischen Werkstätte von Carl Benz in Mannheim. Benz hatte dazu einen leichten, leistungsstarkenBenzinmotor von kleinen Ausmaßen geschaffen. Der Benz-Patentwagen war das erste entwicklungsfähige Automobile weltweit.

Welterbe
Zum Patent-Motorwagen waren jahrzehntelang keinerlei technische Daten vorhanden. Daher wurde der Motor 1940 auf dem Prüfstand der Technischen Hochschule in Stuttgart untersucht. Die Daimler-Benz AG übergab dieses historische Modell 1987 dem Deutschen Technikmuseum im Rahmen der 750-Jahr-Feier der Stadt Berlin.

The Benz-Patent-Motorwagen was invented in 1886 at the mechanical workshop of Carl Benz in Mannheim. Benz had developed a lightweight but powerful gas engine that was small in size. The Benz Patent was the first viable automobile world-wide.

World heritage
For decades, no technical data for the Benz Patent was available. The Stuttgart Technical University thus analyzed the motor in 1940. The Daimler-Benz Corporation presented this historic model to the German Technical Museum in 1987 as part of Berlin's 750-year anniversary celebrations.
