Rolling through Big Horn - a photo on Flickriver

            Under a threatening sky, a pair of Victorian-era wood-burning locomotives take their mixed train through the little yard in the remote hamlet of Big Horn, New Mexico (MP 299.3).   Pictured here are Eureka & Palisade #4 "Eureka" and Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Co. #1 "Glenbrook", both of which were participating in the August, 2021 "Victorian Iron Horse Round-Up" on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.  On this particular day, the pair were hauling a special excursion for photographers on a Big Horn turn, which originated in Antonito, CO.  The Big Horn turn was particularly appropriate for these two locomotives, because the landscape between Antonito and Big Horn is largely desert, which looks very similar to Nevada, where both of these locomotives made their living in their heyday.
