Illinois Barn Circa 1885 194 of 365 (3)

            This large 1885 barn is in Whiteside County, Illinois.  The building is now primarily used for storing machinery.  It has a gabled roof with five lightening rods, a substantial limestone foundation, and is covered with vertical board siding. The hayloft has sixteen louvered ventilators which helped keep temperatures under control in earlier years when large numbers of livestock were housed inside and the mow was filled with massive amounts of hay.
