Choco toucan (Ramphastos brevis), Milpe, Ecuador

            The Choco biogeographical region encompasses the Pacific coast of South America from Panama to northern Peru.  It runs inland to the western slopes of the Andes.  It is a biodiversity hotspot. Its cloud forests in particular are threatened by logging. Conservationists are trying to preserve as much of it as possible in a contiguous corridor of reserves, the Choco Corridor, to avoid habitat fragmentation.
