Verney Junction 8.12.15 - a photo on Flickriver

            The sad remains of Verney Junction, which was the point where the Oxford to Cambridge and Quainton Road to Banbury lines crossed.  Always in the middle of nowhere, at its peak there were only thirteen houses in the vicinity including the Verney Arms pub.  Passenger traffic lasted from 1851 to 1967, and the station was renowned for its gardens which included mermaids guarding a pool of goldfish, a model windmill and award-winning standard roses.  All long gone, and unlikely to return when the line is re-opened between Oxford and Bletchley.
