The Final Encore

            Under suitably solemn skies, GC HST Power Car No.43480 leads 43423 'Valenta' through Woodhouse, an unusual location for any quality rolling stock let alone a Grand Central HST. The working was 1Z42 Doncaster Roberts Road to Barrow Hill - a part of the BLS Grand Farewell railtour. This will mark the cessation of HSTs in Grand Central service, and the beginning of the end for proper travel on the ECML. With these, the VTEC HST and 91 fleets no longer present, the east coast will be a much more dull place. The three Grand Central HST sets are due to be withdrawn and transferred to East Midlands Trains imminently, where they will start operations in February based out of Derby Etches Park supplementing EM's current HST fleet.
