The Fondest of Farewells - a photo on Flickriver

            A sombre day on the East Coast Mainline. HST power car E43112 (modern day 43312) passes Eaton Wood having just departed Retford, at the head of day four of LNER's 'Let's Go Round Again' farewell rail tour. This particular leg of the tour bore the esteemed name of 'The West Riding Limited', running as 1Z43 the 11:01 Leeds to London Kings Cross. Hats off to the staff at Craigenginny and Doncaster Works for their incredible rendition of the Blue and Grey livery adorning this set, it looks absolutely fantastic and acts as a fitting tribute to the hard work this fleet has put in over the past 41 years. The immense crowds that gathered to see this working pass by are testament to how much they will be missed by enthusiasts, staff and passengers alike. Of note is leading Mk3 Trailer First no. 41170, fittingly one of the coaches from the original prototype HST set. East Coast HSTs have been a massive part of my childhood, I spent hours watching then photographing them while growing up, I will dearly miss them.
