The South Tyne Way - Tyne Head - What was.

Like so many areas in the upland region of the Pennines the landscape tells the story of what went before. Once a more populated area with people earning a living from farming and exploiting the mineral wealth just below the surface and in many cases combining the two. The area today is very quiet. The occasional shooting party after the grouse, enthusiastic walkers enjoying the wild high places, environmentalists measuring everything that can be measured and then pronouncing on what the future holds. Farming is still paramount judging by the number of sheep on the high ground and cattle in the valley
The area is dotted though with derelict dwellings where families lived and thrived like the one above next to the track leading to Tyne Head..
