Rede Ferroviária Federal S.A. (Brazil) - RFFSA "Beyer Garratt" type 4-8-2+2-8-4 steam locomotive Nr. 612 at Recife Central Staion in 1978 (Henschel Locomotive Works, Kassel 25258 / 1952)

            A few Garratt locomotives were supplied to broad, meter and narrow gauge railways throughout Brazil, but the design never caught on here. Meter gauge, Henschel-built 4-8-2+2-8-4 Nr. 612 is preserved at the small railway museum at Recife Central station. It was delivered to the Great Western of Brazil Railway in 1952 and was later on taken over by the Rede Ferroviaria do Nordeste. It then entered service with Brazil's  RFFSA. Nr. 612 is the only surviving Garratt in Brazil

Six Garratts were ordered in 1952 by the Great Western of Brazil Railway. Their serial numbers were 6966 to 6969 and 7136 to 7137. Total weight was 150 tons, making them a heavy class for the meter gauge tracks of the Great Western Railway of Brazil
