Juneau, Alaska - Nugget Falls - a photo on Flickriver

            Nugget Falls, also known as Nugget Creek Falls or Mendenhall Glacier Falls, is a waterfall located just outside the city of Juneau, Alaska.

The waterfall is fed by Nugget Creek, which is in turn fed by the Nugget Glacier.

The waterfall drops 377 feet in two tiers of 99 feet and 278 feet onto a sandbar in Mendenhall Lake, which is the freshwater pool at the face of the Mendenhall Glacier.

I visited the falls and glacier while on an Alaska Cruise on the Carnival Legend.  They are very easy to get to from the cruise pier.  Just walk up to one of the booths and buy a round-trip ticket.  Costs about $20.

Be sure and plan enough time to walk out to the glacier and waterfall!  The roar of the waterfall is amazing!
